What We Do
Ecolibri USA partners with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) already working in the villages that surround Lake Atitlan, a beautiful yet impoverished region of the Guatemalan highlands. Focused on basics needs, such as clean water, nutritious meals, quality education and decent housing, EcolibriUSA provides financial, volunteer and material resources to those working to help the people of the region create a better life for themselves and their families.
second Corn Delivery
Despite fear of the coronavirus, villagers living in San Juan La Laguna came out to unload 300 bags of corn that will feed over 350 families for up to six weeks. Fundraising continues for additional deliveries of this needed staple of daily life.
Update on Food Relief program
In March, 2020, Guatemala experienced the first cases of cornoavirus and shut down roads to the small villages of the Lake Atitlan region. Day laborers and those making their living fishing the waters of the lake lost their jobs and villagers were cut off from daily food supplies. EcolibriUSA partnered with its affiliate, Ecolibri (ecolibri.org) to deliver a truckload of 300 bags of corn to 350 families in the village of San Juan La Laguna in early April, 2020 Since then, fundraising continued for a second truck which delivered another 300 bags of corn in mid-May. Now, EcolibriUSA and Ecolibri are fundraising for a third truckload of corn to feed families in the area. Until the food crisis is over, Ecolibri is committed to continue its relief efforts in partnership with EcolibriUSA.
